About this dive site

This dive site is the Cheynes III, a 47.9m long whale chaser sunk as Australia's first "purpose prepared" artificial reef. Resting at a maximum depth of 21 meters with an average depth of approximately 10 meters, it offers an easily navigable wreck for divers. Its historical significance as a thoughtfully prepared wreck adds to the unique experience.

The wreck teems with diverse marine life. Schools of bulls-eye congregate around the bridge, while queen snapper, blue groper, harlequin, blue devils, and countless small colourful reef fish inhabit various parts of the structure. The artificial reef nature encourages a rich ecosystem.

This fantastic dive is best enjoyed in most weather conditions, with the exception of strong S-SW winds which can affect visibility and currents. With average visibility of 10-15m, it is suitable for divers of all levels, including those new to wreck diving. Freedivers will also find the depths and visibility appealing.
