About this dive site

This dive site is located on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef. It's a vibrant patch of ocean, approximately 10 square kilometers in size (equivalent to 3.6 square miles). Divers and snorkelers will be captivated by its stunning array of colors and abundant marine life. Below the surface, you’ll discover swim-throughs, intriguing caves, and occasional bommies – underwater formations that provide shelter for a variety of creatures. Hastings Reef is home to a diverse population including Maori wrasse, reef sharks (generally docile), giant clams, anemone fish, massive giant humphead parrotfish, stingrays, octopus, graceful sea turtles, and even the famous clownfish featured in ‘Finding Nemo.’ Visibility consistently ranges from 18 to 30 meters (approximately 60 to 100 feet), offering excellent viewing conditions. Water temperatures typically fall between 24 and 30 degrees Celsius (75 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit). The maximum depth reached at this site is 20 meters (65 feet).
