About this dive site

Ned's Beach is an iconic Lord Howe Island experience, offering one of the easiest and most rewarding shore dives or snorkels imaginable. Located on the sheltered north-east side of the island, the site is renowned for its exceptionally tame fish life. As you enter the crystal-clear, shallow water from the sandy shore, you are immediately greeted by a swirling vortex of silver-drummer, mullet, and the impressively large and curious kingfish, all accustomed to being hand-fed for decades. The dive itself is a gentle exploration, typically in depths of 2-8 metres, making it perfect for all skill levels.

The bay's unique biodiversity is a direct result of its special location where warm tropical currents meet cooler temperate waters. This confluence creates a rare ecosystem where you can find unique species of kelp and lush sea grass beds thriving alongside coral formations. While exploring this vibrant habitat, you will encounter beautiful turtles grazing peacefully, colourful emperorfish darting amongst the rocks, and even the occasional Galapagos whaler shark cruising confidently near the shore. Its protected nature, calm conditions, and phenomenal mix of marine life make Ned's Beach a perfect spot for beginners, photographers, and anyone seeking a truly joyous and unforgettable underwater encounter.
