About this dive site

This dive site, located in the Shiprock Aquatic Reserve, offers a unique underwater experience. The area is characterized by strong tidal currents and unblemished oceanic waters alongside complex rocky formations, creating a diverse habitat for a wide range of marine life. It’s a wall dive with a maximum depth of 18 meters. The reserve boasts an impressive variety of marine species: approximately 130 different fish, along with numerous algae and invertebrates like worms, snails, crustaceans, and colourful sponges. These creatures find refuge in the thousands of crevices, submerged caves, and bommies that dot the landscape. During the summer months, a fascinating influx of tropical species arrives from Queensland via the East Australian Current – a truly remarkable sight. Diving is best undertaken during slack tide, with high tides providing optimal visibility.
