About this dive site

This dive site, Sutherland Point, offers a unique underwater experience. It’s known for its sheltered location, shielded from southernly swells, allowing it to be dived when other nearby sites are too rough. Due to its proximity to the bay, visibility is typically not as high as in more open locations. For optimal viewing, diving during an incoming tide is recommended. The area provides a captivating environment with numerous swim-throughs and a small sponge garden, frequently hosting schools of fish like Yellowtail, Giant Cuttlefish, Wobbegongs, and Blue Groper. A particularly intriguing feature is a small cave inhabited by a family of blind sharks. Perhaps the most notable attraction is the opportunity to encounter the elusive Weedy Sea Dragon, adding a significant element of excitement for divers. The site presents a blend of natural beauty and unique wildlife encounters.
