About this dive site

This dive site, known as The Steps, offers a unique experience for divers seeking to encounter weedy seadragons. It's located in a bay and is considered a prime location by many due to its beautiful sponge gardens. You’ll likely spot Weedy sea dragons disguised as kelp, alongside species such as Bream, Old wives, Luderick, Blue gropers, and Giant cuttlefish. To fully appreciate this site, diving is recommended during slack or incoming tide. Begin your descent north towards the sandy line, then turn east to exit the bay. After approximately 40 meters, search among the kelp for these elusive seadragons. The kelp area transitions into a rocky landscape abundant with sponges and diverse fish life. When you reach your planned depth, return toward the shore where a wall of large boulders awaits – this is often home to Giant cuttlefish. Follow this boulder wall back to your entry/exit point. This site is particularly rewarding for those who have never observed seadragons, though a guide is recommended for the initial dive as they can significantly aid in spotting these remarkable creatures.
