This dive site is located at Hotel Das Traunsee on the picturesque Lake Traun in Austria. Entry is conveniently located from a landing stage beneath the parking lot, leading divers directly into the water. The underwater topography features a fairly shallow bank that transitions into a steep face, offering interesting navigation. Unique artificial features include platforms at 5m and 10m, ideal for training or safety stops, and a notable VW Bus wreck situated at 12m, providing an exciting point of interest.
The marine life at Hotel Das Traunsee is primarily freshwater species. Divers can expect to encounter large shoals of juvenile perch, particularly prominent under the hotel platform, often observed being hunted by larger pike. Crayfish are also a common sight, adding to the smaller creatures that inhabit the site.
The best time to visit this dive site is especially in autumn, when the large shoals of juvenile perch are most active and visible. This period offers excellent opportunities for observing predator-prey interactions with pike. The accessible platforms make it suitable for divers of all levels, including beginners and those undergoing training. Freedivers will also find the varied depths and features, including the VW bus, appealing for breath-hold explorations.
