This dive site, known as Hammerhead Site, is a unique and dynamic location situated outside Bimini harbor in the Bahamas. It is specifically set up as a feeding dive to facilitate close encounters with Great Hammerhead sharks. The site itself features a predominantly sandy bottom with no notable underwater features, meaning navigation is straightforward and the focus is entirely on the pelagic action. Its exact coordinates are flexible, adjusted slightly by operators to account for tidal conditions, visibility, and boat traffic, ensuring the best possible shark interaction.
The primary draw of the Hammerhead Site is its guaranteed shark encounters. Divers can expect to come face-to-face with magnificent Great Hammerhead sharks during the seasonal months. Beyond the hammerheads, the site frequently hosts 'guest stars' such as powerful Tiger sharks and robust Bull sharks, significantly enhancing the thrill of the dive. While the seafloor is sandy, some typical reef fish common to the Bahamian waters may be observed, though they are not the main attraction.
The prime time to experience the Hammerhead Site is between November and April, when the hammerhead sharks are most prevalent and the feeding dives are actively conducted. This shallow site is exceptionally suitable for both scuba divers and freedivers, offering ample bottom time and fantastic opportunities for wide-angle photography of these apex predators. Divers should be comfortable with large marine animals and always adhere strictly to the dive master's instructions to ensure a safe and unforgettable interaction with some of the ocean's most iconic and powerful creatures.
