About this dive site
This dive site is located in an old marble quarry that was disused in the 1980s. The quarry offers a unique and fascinating underwater environment, characterized by submerged industrial remnants. A significant portion of the original extraction equipment remains on the seabed, including a large crane, worker ladders, and lift nacelles – creating a surreal landscape for divers. Several objects have been intentionally placed within the quarry to enhance its appeal; these include a sailboat measuring 22 meters in length, a tugboat approximately 9 meters long positioned at 33 meters depth, another boat at 20 meters, a smaller boat at 6 meters, a Hawker Hunter fighter plane, a Porsche rear section, an anchor, and a car (estimated at around 5 meters). The quarry is suitable for practicing apnea. The location can be reached by travelling from Brussels to Charleroi, following Philippeville on the N5 until you reach Ciney, continuing toward Givet. The quarry itself is situated on the left side of the road after Villers-le-Gambon and is named Franchimont. Due to the presence of submerged objects, it's advisable to assess current conditions before diving.
