This dive site, Angel City (44), is renowned for its unique double reef system that runs parallel to the coastline of Bonaire. Divers begin over a flat sandy section at 5 meters before encountering the first vibrant reef, which descends to approximately 18 meters. A swim across a channel leads to the second parallel reef, rising to about 9 meters, creating an immersive experience surrounded by coral structures. The name 'Angel City' likely refers to the abundance of angelfish and the serene, heavenly feel of the site.
The reefs teem with typical Caribbean marine life. Divers can expect to encounter various fish species such as snapper, angelfish, grunts, and parrotfish. Larger marine animals, including nurse sharks, reef sharks, and occasional eagle rays and stingrays, can also be spotted patrolling the reef systems, adding excitement to the dive.
Bonaire offers excellent diving conditions year-round, making any time ideal to visit Angel City. The site's relatively shallow average depth and mild currents make it very suitable for divers of all levels, including beginners and freedivers. For photographers, the double reef structure provides ample opportunities for wide-angle shots, while the diverse fish life offers subjects for macro photography.
