About this dive site
This dive site, known as Atlantis, is a readily accessible location situated approximately 20 minutes south of Kralendijk. Access to the diving area is via the sandy beach, making it suitable for divers of various experience levels. Due to the absence of a mooring line, shore access is the only available method. The reef begins sloping from the shoreline at roughly 100 meters, with the shallowest reef section commencing at a depth of 5 meters. The slope continues downwards, reaching a maximum depth of around 30 meters. This area boasts an abundance of both hard and soft corals, complemented by large sponges. It’s common to observe diverse marine life including sargassum triggerfish and rock beauties. Other frequently spotted species include Jack fish, mackerel, filefish, and schools of surgeonfish. Occasionally, divers may encounter sea turtles; in the shallows among staghorn coral formations, eagle rays and stingrays have been documented. Divers should be aware that kite surfers utilize this area, so carrying a submersible marker buoy (SMB) is essential, and it’s advisable to choose an alternative dive site when strong winds are present for safety reasons.
