This dive site, Candyland, is a beautiful and vibrant coral reef located on the leeward side of Bonaire. It is characterized by extensive healthy coral formations that extend from shallow depths, making it excellent for both divers and snorkelers. Navigation is straightforward along the reef, though divers should note the shore entrance, which can be challenging due to coral debris.
The marine life at Candyland is typical of the Caribbean, featuring a wide array of fish species such as snapper, angelfish, grunts, and parrotfish. Larger inhabitants include nurse and reef sharks, with the possibility of encountering majestic eagle rays and stingrays. The reef itself is teeming with healthy, diverse corals, providing a rich ecosystem for these animals.
Candyland is an excellent dive site to visit year-round, offering consistently good conditions and marine encounters. For divers and freedivers, the abundant shallow coral makes for excellent extended bottom times and photography opportunities. Pay particular attention during the shore entry and exit due to the presence of coral remains to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.
