About this dive site

This dive site is the wreck of the Portuguese galleon Most Holy Sacrament, which sank in 1668 at the entrance of All Saints Bay in Salvador, Brazil. The wreck lies at a maximum depth of 28 meters, with an average depth around 14 meters. Navigation requires careful attention due to the wreck's structure and potential for entanglement. The historical significance is immense, as it allows divers to explore cannons, anchors, and other artifacts from the 17th century. Divers should have experience navigating wrecks.

Marine life inhabiting the wreck and surrounding area includes lobsters, morays, and a variety of fish species that find shelter amidst the cannons and anchors. Corals also thrive in this location, adding to the underwater scenery. While specific fish species are not identified, the abundance of life within and around a wreck suggests a diverse ecosystem.

The best time to visit is likely during the dry season in Brazil (May-October), offering generally better visibility and calmer seas. Strong currents can be present, particularly at depth; therefore, advanced diving certification and Nitrox are highly recommended. This dive is not suitable for freediving due to its depth and potentially strong currents. Proper buoyancy control and navigation skills are paramount for safe exploration.
