About this dive site

This dive site is the wreck of the Gonçalo Coelho, a ship sunk intentionally in 1999 off Serrambi Beach. The wreck sits upright in a navigational position, with a notable ramp from its WWII use for landing tanks. Divers can explore the entire wreck, including the interior (if certified and experienced), navigating carefully around potential hazards. The ship is now an artificial reef, well-maintained and teeming with life.

Marine life here is abundant and diverse. Expect to see numerous schooling fish, as well as various invertebrates and possibly larger species. The wreck itself provides a complex habitat, attracting a variety of organisms that have made it their home.

The best time to visit is likely during the warmer months, when visibility tends to be better and conditions are calmer. Divers should be aware of potential currents, and have appropriate buoyancy control. Freediving is not recommended due to the depth and potential for disorientation within the wreck structure. Strong buoyancy control is essential, and appropriate certification level for wreck diving is required.
