About this dive site

This dive site, known as Parque dos Meros, is an open sea artificial marine reef established between the Currais and Itacolomis Islands. It consists of concrete blocks deliberately implanted to create a new habitat for marine life. The site serves as a vital ecosystem, attracting a diverse array of species and offering a unique underwater landscape for exploration. As an artificial reef, it has no historical wreck but provides a modern conservation success story.

The primary highlight of Parque dos Meros is the impressive presence of groupers (Meros), which are known for their calm demeanor despite their immense size. These magnificent fish can grow to over 2 meters in length and weigh up to 250 kg. Beyond the star attraction, the artificial structures naturally draw a variety of reef fish, crustaceans, and other invertebrates, contributing to a vibrant and evolving ecosystem.

While specific best times to visit are not provided, the site's shallow average depth of 8 meters makes it suitable for divers of all levels, including beginners. The calm nature of the groupers offers fantastic opportunities for wide-angle photography and unique interactions. It is also an excellent spot for freedivers and snorkelers due to its manageable depth and interesting marine encounters.
