This dive site is the Phoenix tugboat wreck, an integral part of the Artificial Wreck Park of Pernambuco. Deliberately sunk in navigational position near the Bellatrix and São José tugboats, the Phoenix is remarkably well-preserved. Divers can explore its distinct features, including the casario (superstructure), command room, chimney, and rudder, offering a fascinating glimpse into its past life.
The Phoenix wreck serves as a thriving artificial reef, attracting a diverse range of marine species. It is home to numerous reef and passage fish, providing an excellent opportunity to observe schools of jacks, spadefish, and various grunts that have made the wreck their habitat.
As part of an artificial reef park, the Phoenix wreck is generally accessible year-round, though local weather and sea conditions should always be considered. Divers are advised to have some wreck diving experience or to go with a guide familiar with the site. Freedivers with experience can also enjoy the shallower parts and the overall structure, making it a versatile site for different levels of underwater enthusiasts.
