This dive site, known as Cobia Cave, is situated along a fringing coral reef in Cambodia. It features a distinctive overhang at 13.5 meters depth, offering exploration of interesting rock formations and hidden crevices. The site also holds a unique point of interest: a small, upside-down fishing boat that sank some time ago, providing a small wreck element to discover. Navigation is generally straightforward along the reef structure.
Divers can expect to encounter a variety of marine life here. The cracks within the rock formations are home to numerous critters, ideal for macro observation. Larger fish often make an appearance, with schools of barracuda and individual cobia fish sometimes seen. Batfish and angelfish are commonly found near the reef's cracks, while tusk fish and sweetlips are occasionally spotted adding to the diversity. The fringing coral reef itself provides a vibrant habitat.
The best time to visit Cobia Cave typically aligns with Cambodia's dry season (November-May), offering calmer seas and better visibility. This site is particularly well-suited for both scuba divers and freedivers due to its relatively shallow average depth of 7 meters and manageable maximum depth of 14 meters. Snorkelers can also enjoy the shallower reef areas. Divers should explore the overhang carefully for hidden life and take time to appreciate the small details in the rock crevices.
