About this dive site
This dive site, located at Cates Park, is primarily known for crabbing opportunities. The area offers a unique experience with concrete columns providing habitat for various marine life including crabs, nudibranchs, lingcod, anemones, and occasionally even octopus. To access the prime diving spots, begin by parking near the totem pole and canoe shack. Follow the concrete path to the left, swimming approximately 50 feet from the path until you reach the large columns. Be aware that strong currents are present at this site; it’s crucial to check slack tide times before your dive. Additionally, there's a hazard of entanglement due to downed crab traps – carrying a cutting tool is recommended. The park provides washroom facilities and ample parking, with picnic areas and beaches nearby for post-dive enjoyment.
