This dive site, Burbujas, is a unique underwater mud volcano located approximately 10 kilometers northeast of Isla Fuerte in Colombia. Rising dramatically from a depth of 120 meters, its small crater reaches up to 18 meters, offering a distinct geological feature. As one of the far shelf reefs in the area, it presents an interesting topography for exploration, making navigation primarily focused on exploring the volcano's structure and surrounding reef.
The site is remarkably colonized by a multitude of coral species, with striking black corals and impressively large barrel sponges that resemble stacks of train cars. While no specific large pelagics are explicitly mentioned, the abundant coral life supports a diverse array of reef fish and macro-invertebrates typical of Caribbean reefs.
Burbujas is ideal for divers seeking unique topography and vibrant coral ecosystems. The unique mud volcano formation and extensive coral gardens are the main highlights. Divers should be comfortable with boat access and potentially exposed conditions. The site is generally suitable for intermediate divers given its maximum depth and location.
