This dive site, known as Car Pile in Marie Pampoen, offers a unique underwater landscape formed by car wrecks intentionally dumped in the sixties. Divers typically navigate through scattered car wreckage starting at 15 meters (50 feet), encountering more intact vehicles as they descend deeper. A small barge rests on a sandy bottom at 30 meters (100 feet), surrounded by additional boat wreckage, with further exploration opportunities for tech divers extending beyond 60 meters (200 feet).
The wreckage provides a rich habitat for a variety of marine life. Divers frequently encounter impressive Tarpons, graceful Green Moray Eels, and curious Turtles. Closer inspection of the intricate wreckage reveals smaller inhabitants such as various crabs, reclusive lobsters, and elusive shrimps.
While no specific "best time to visit" is highlighted, the Car Pile offers an engaging dive year-round, characteristic of Curaçao's consistent conditions. This site is particularly appealing to divers interested in wreck exploration and macro photography, with its abundant small creatures. Experienced freedivers can also enjoy exploring the shallower sections of the car wrecks.
