This dive site, known as Eel Valley, is situated near a golf course in Curaçao and is exclusively accessible by boat. Divers typically begin their exploration on a sandy bottom, gradually swimming towards a vibrant reef wall. Historically, the site was known for its abundant eel population, though this is no longer the case. Interestingly, divers might occasionally encounter stray golf balls on the sand, adding a unique, man-made touch to the natural underwater scenery.
While the eels are largely absent, the site still offers glimpses of Caribbean marine life. Rays are sometimes spotted gliding gracefully over the sandy areas, and the reef wall hosts the usual, diverse inhabitants common to Curaçao's waters. Expect to see various reef fish, colorful corals, and other invertebrates thriving in this environment.
The best time to visit Eel Valley, like most of Curaçao, is during the dry season from April to November for optimal weather and sea conditions. The shallow to moderate depths make it an excellent choice for beginner divers and a pleasant, relaxing dive for more experienced individuals. Its suitability for snorkeling and freediving also makes it appealing for those who prefer to explore without scuba gear, especially around the shallower reef sections.
