This dive site, Punt Canon, is a pristine and unspoiled reef located on the eastern end of Curaçao, exclusively accessible by boat. Widely considered one of Curaçao's finest dive destinations, it features the 'Tarpon bridge,' a natural underwater arch at its easternmost point. This unique topographical element adds intrigue to the healthy and dense hard coral formations, complemented by an abundance of sponges and gorgonians.
Divers at Punt Canon can expect to encounter a diverse range of marine life. Frequently spotted larger species include nurse sharks, eagle rays, green sea turtles, and barracuda. Tarpons are often found congregating around the natural Tarpon bridge. The thriving ecosystem of hard corals, soft corals like gorgonians, and various sponge species provides a rich habitat for countless reef fish and smaller invertebrates.
The best time to visit Punt Canon, and Curaçao in general, is year-round, benefiting from consistently warm waters and excellent visibility. Divers must be comfortable with boat entries and exits as it's the sole access method. Its shallow average depth of 9 meters, combined with abundant marine life, makes it highly suitable for both snorkelers and freedivers seeking vibrant reef exploration and potential big animal encounters. It's an excellent site for wide-angle underwater photography.
