This dive site, known as Vaersenbaai or Kokomo, is famously called Car Wrecks due to the unique underwater landscape featuring numerous sunken cars. It offers an easy shore entry with convenient parking nearby. Divers navigate by descending from a blue buoy line, following it offshore to discover this artificial reef. While suitable for beginners near the entry, the site quickly drops off, allowing for deeper exploration among the wrecks.
Living in and around these submerged vehicles is a diverse array of marine life. Divers can expect to encounter nurse and reef sharks, graceful eagle rays, and serene turtles. The wrecks are also teeming with various fish species, including vibrant snapper, angelfish, grunts, and grouper. Anemones are also present, adding to the site's biodiversity.
Curaçao generally offers excellent diving conditions year-round, making any time suitable for a visit. For divers, it's crucial to closely monitor depth, as the bottom can drop off rapidly. Freedivers will appreciate the easy access and varying depths, providing opportunities for both shallow exploration and deeper dives, while always being mindful of the quick descent to the deeper sections.
