This dive site, known as Lost Horizon, is a truly rewarding experience, despite its seldom-dived status. The original mooring has been missing for years and was never replaced, meaning divers are dropped off by boat and must navigate by swimming towards the Suburbs mooring. This unique approach leads to the entryway of a spectacular canyon, showcasing an exceptional mix of fish and corals, making it one of the most diverse sites in the area.
The marine life at Lost Horizon is vibrant and plentiful. Divers will encounter large schools of creole wrasse, black durgeons, horse eye jacks, and bar jacks. As you approach the Suburbs area, black margates and schoolmasters become common sights. The site's diverse coral formations further enhance its rich and thriving ecosystem, providing habitat for a wide variety of smaller reef inhabitants.
Lost Horizon is particularly well-suited for underwater photography, with ample opportunities for both wide-angle shots of schooling fish and the dramatic canyon, as well as macro photography of its healthy corals and smaller creatures. While no specific best time to visit is mentioned, Dominica generally offers excellent diving conditions year-round. Divers should possess good navigation skills and be comfortable with boat drop-offs due to the missing mooring.
