About this dive site

This dive site, Roccadilly, is a popular and accessible reef located centrally in the Boca Chica lagoon, about 10 minutes by boat to the south. It's known for its relatively shallow depths, ranging from approximately 12 to 25 meters, making it an excellent training and recreational spot. There is no specific historical account or unique navigation challenge beyond following the reef structure.

Divers can expect to encounter a vibrant array of marine life typical of Caribbean reefs. Common sightings include various species of reef fish such as groupers and triggerfish, alongside elusive moray eels. Lobsters and snails are also frequently spotted among the coral formations. A notable feature of Roccadilly are the impressively large sponges, which occasionally house fascinating creatures like king crabs.

The best time to visit the Dominican Republic for diving is generally during the dry season, from November to May, when weather conditions are most stable and underwater visibility is typically excellent. Roccadilly is well-suited for both beginner and advanced divers due to its manageable depth and rich biodiversity. Snorkelers and freedivers will also find the shallower parts of the reef rewarding for surface exploration.
