About this dive site
This dive site, Carless Reef, is located about two hours southeast of El Gouna, Egypt, in the open sea. Known for its strong currents, it's a challenging yet rewarding dive for experienced divers. Navigation requires attention due to the currents, and it's crucial to maintain buoyancy and proper dive planning to avoid being swept away. There's no known specific history or story behind the reef itself, but its location in the open sea contributes to its unique characteristics.
The vibrant coral formations teem with diverse marine life. Reef fish of various species are abundant. Larger predators such as tuna and barracuda are commonly sighted, along with the possibility of encountering tiger sharks (though sightings are not guaranteed). The reef also supports a healthy population of smaller reef inhabitants.
The best time to visit Carless Reef is generally during the warmer months (spring and summer) when water visibility is usually at its best and marine life is most active. Strong currents are typical here, so only experienced divers should attempt this dive. Freediving is not recommended due to the strong currents and depth. Divers should always check current conditions and dive with a buddy.
