About this dive site
This dive site, Gotha Abu Galawa, is located in the Abu Galawa reef, approximately one hour south of Elgouna, Egypt. It's characterized by beautiful pinnacles teeming with life, making it an ideal spot for both beginners and experienced divers. The relatively shallow depth, with a maximum of 15 meters, allows for a relaxed exploration of the area, including the possibility of a drift dive. Navigating the site is easy, following the reef structures and pinnacles. There is no known historical significance or specific story related to this dive site; its charm lies in the vibrant marine life and straightforward dive profile.
The diverse marine life found at Gotha Abu Galawa includes a colorful array of fish such as glassfish, anthias, pufferfish, clownfish, and morays. Invertebrates such as octopus, stingrays (including eagle rays and fantail stingrays), scorpionfish, stonefish, and lionfish are also commonly sighted. Additionally, sightings of snake eels and even dolphins are possible, adding to the excitement of the dive.
The best time to visit Gotha Abu Galawa is during the warmer months, from April to October, when the water is calmer and visibility is at its best. It is suitable for both scuba diving and freediving due to the shallow depth and generally calm conditions. However, divers and freedivers should maintain awareness of their surroundings and the potential for mild currents. Remember to respect the marine environment and maintain a safe diving distance from all marine life.
