About this dive site
This dive site is the house reef of Lotus Bay in Egypt, easily accessible directly from the beach. The shallow reef makes it an excellent spot for beginners and training dives, with a gentle slope down to a maximum depth of 9 meters. The navigation is straightforward; simply explore the reef along its gently sloping profile. There is no known historical significance or specific story behind the site, other than its accessibility and suitability for divers of all levels, making it a popular and reliable choice.
The reef's ecosystem is rich and varied. Expect to encounter a variety of reef fish such as angelfish, moray eels, crocodilefish, and coral catfish. The presence of a seagrass meadow adds another dimension to the underwater landscape and supports a population of at least three turtles. The coral formations themselves are quite attractive and offer interesting features to explore.
The best time to visit is during the warmer months (typically spring and summer in Egypt), when visibility is excellent and the water temperature is more comfortable. For both scuba divers and freedivers, the calm conditions and shallow depth make this a safe and enjoyable dive site. Remember to maintain buoyancy control and be mindful of any marine life, respecting their space and avoiding contact.
