About this dive site

This dive site is located in the bay of Mersa Bareika and features a scattering of vibrant coral heads that thrive in both high and low tide conditions, supporting a rich diversity of marine life. The dive typically involves navigating northwards along a wall punctuated by large overhangs and dark gullies. The wall itself is adorned with a stunning display of Red Sea fans, gorgonians, and occasional black coral.

The area teems with a variety of fish species, including those typical of the Red Sea. Divers and snorkelers can expect to observe colorful reef fish, possibly including larger pelagic species that patrol the area depending on the season. The abundant coral formations provide a habitat for a vast array of smaller invertebrates, crustaceans, and other macro life, making it a great site for both wide-angle and macro photography.

The best time to visit Marsa Baryka is typically during the warmer months, from April to October, when the water temperature is more comfortable and visibility is usually at its best. For freedivers, it's advisable to choose calm days with minimal currents for safer and more enjoyable dives. Divers should be aware of the potential for mild currents, especially further along the wall, and should plan their dives accordingly. Proper buoyancy control is essential to avoid damaging the delicate coral formations.
