About this dive site
This dive site, Poseidon Reef, is located south of Shaab El Erg, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes east of El Gouna, Egypt. It's characterized by a stunning and easily navigable coral garden with relatively shallow depths, making it accessible to divers of all experience levels, particularly beginners. The reef is generally calm and presents no significant navigational challenges. There is no known specific history attached to the naming of this reef beyond its location within a broader diving area.
The marine life at Poseidon Reef is abundant and varied. Divers can expect to see large schools of grouper, wrasse, and butterflyfish. The coral garden itself is vibrant and healthy, providing a beautiful backdrop for underwater photography. Eagle rays are also occasionally sighted patrolling the area. A wide variety of smaller reef fish and invertebrates can also be found amongst the coral.
The best time to visit Poseidon Reef is during the warmer months (April-October) when water visibility is generally at its best. This is also the period when many marine species are at their most active. For freedivers, the shallow depths and calm conditions make this an excellent site for exploring. Divers should remember to be mindful of their buoyancy to avoid damaging the delicate coral. Proper buoyancy control is also advisable for snorkeling to ensure the coral is not disturbed by kicks or fins.
