This dive site, known as The Caves, is located approximately 25 minutes south of Dahab, Egypt. It is uniquely accessible only during high tide and calm wind conditions, making proper planning essential. The site features large, shallow washouts leading to a quickly sloping reef and a dramatic steep wall on its northern side, offering diverse underwater topography and interesting navigation through its cave-like structures.
The Caves boast a rich variety of marine life. Within the underwash areas, divers can encounter large puffer fish, delicate nudibranches, and industrious hermit crabs. Moving towards the 'break-off edge' of the steep wall, swarms of glass fish are common, alongside scorpion fish, fusiliers, moray eels, and various shrimps, providing excellent opportunities for macro and wide-angle observation.
The best time to visit The Caves is during periods of high tide and minimal wind to ensure safe and enjoyable diving. Both scuba divers and freedivers can appreciate the shallow washouts and the impressive steep wall. Divers should be mindful of conditions and plan dives accordingly to fully experience the site's vibrant reef ecosystem and unique geological features.
