About this dive site
This dive site is the wreck of the Donator, a cargo ship that sank shortly after the end of World War II due to a collision with a mine. The ship was owned by a company based in Algeria and served as the sole survivor of the Schiaffino fleet, which initially comprised around twenty vessels. During the conflict, some ships were requisitioned, while others were sunk or lost at sea. A few of these were recovered after hostilities ended but remained abandoned and unusable. The Donator, equipped as a pinardier (a type of coastal cargo vessel), continued to navigate for several months before its tragic November 1945 sinking. This wreck offers a glimpse into wartime maritime history and the challenges faced by merchant ships during that period.
