About this dive site

This dive site is the Epave Franjack, a 50-meter-long hourglass freighter wreck resting on a sandy bottom at approximately 24 meters. Built in Denmark in 1958, it sailed to Copenhagen before ending up in La Rochelle in the 1970s. The wreck lies relatively flat on its keel and is in good condition, except for the collapsed forward cabin. Divers should navigate carefully around the wreck, noting the depth and potential for silt disturbance. The penetration of the wreck should be avoided unless you have the right skills.

Marine life abounds within and around the Franjack. Green moray eels and lobsters are common inhabitants of the engine hold, often accompanied by a variety of other surprises. The wreck itself is generously covered in sponges and other invertebrates, offering excellent opportunities for macro photography. A wide variety of fish species will also be visible.

The best time to dive the Epave Franjack is during the summer months (June-September) when water temperatures are warmer and visibility is typically best. While freediving is not recommended due to the depth, divers should be aware of the potential for moderate currents and the need for appropriate buoyancy control. Proper planning and experienced dive guides are recommended.
