This dive site features the Fu-Sheng, an impressive 80-meter long Taiwanese trader that rests upside down on a significant drop-off on the western side of St. Maarten. The wreck lies at a maximum depth of 30 meters, with an average depth around 15 meters, offering an intriguing and substantial structure for exploration. Divers can navigate around the massive hull, observing the unique way marine life has integrated with the sunken vessel and the dramatic topography of the drop-off.
The Fu-Sheng is renowned for its vibrant marine life, especially the potential for encounters with numerous large pelagics such as various species of sharks and rays. The site is also home to a diverse array of crustaceans, including lobsters and the distinctive slipper lobster. The wreck itself provides shelter and a rich habitat for countless reef fish, making it a bustling underwater ecosystem.
Given its depth and location on a drop-off, the Fu-Sheng is best suited for advanced divers capable of managing deeper profiles and potential variable currents. While no specific best time for animal encounters is noted, good visibility is generally common in the Caribbean. Freedivers with sufficient experience in deeper breath-hold dives will also find the wreck an excellent and challenging target.
