About this dive site

This dive site presents an intriguing historical wreck located off the coast of Cap Nègre in the Lavandou bay. The site is linked to a French Navy aircraft that experienced a mishap during training exercises. Specifically, the pilot, involved in practicing appontage maneuvers – simulating landings on aircraft carriers – suffered engine failure and made a low-speed landing at sea. Although rescued by a passing boat, the aircraft was subsequently lost and remained undiscovered for several decades. Its eventual recovery quickly confirmed the details of the original accident. The site offers a compelling glimpse into a forgotten event within French naval aviation history. Dive conditions are likely to be variable due to its location in the bay. Visibility may vary depending on weather and sea state. It is currently considered an underwater archaeological site.
