This dive site presents an intriguing historical wreck located off the coast of Cap Nègre in the Lavandou bay. The site is linked to a French Navy aircraft that experienced a mishap during training exercises. Specifically, the pilot, involved in practicing appontage maneuvers – simulating landings on aircraft carriers – suffered engine failure and made a low-speed landing at sea. Although rescued by a passing boat, the aircraft was subsequently lost and remained undiscovered for several decades. Its eventual recovery quickly confirmed the details of the original accident. The site offers a compelling glimpse into a forgotten event within French naval aviation history. Dive conditions are likely to be variable due to its location in the bay.
