About this dive site
This dive site features a cargo ship wreck, the Dalton, located on Planier Island. The vessel sank in 1928 and currently lies between 15 and 33 meters deep. Measuring approximately 70.5 meters long, it was built in 1877. The wreck has suffered significant degradation over time, but sections remain relatively intact. Initial exploration reveals that the bow faces the island. Moving towards the stern, recognizable features of the ship begin to emerge, including the central section, the shape of the Dalton itself, and machinery like boilers. The superstructures have largely collapsed. Access to the aft hold is possible without difficulty. At a depth of 33 meters, the propeller and rudder are prominent elements of the wreck. The railing has held up reasonably well, and portions of the bridge remain. This dive offers a unique opportunity to explore a historical vessel while navigating rocky scree conditions; diving will be possible in calm seas and light winds.
