About this dive site
This dive site, La Gabinière Ouest, located off the coast of France, offers a diverse underwater landscape characterized by a mix of large rocky screes and impressive ridges reaching depths of up to 40 meters, although the maximum dive depth is 22 meters. The site is well-protected from easterly winds and features four mooring buoys for easy access. Navigation is generally straightforward, following the rocky formations southward towards the deeper ridges. There is no known historical significance or specific story associated with this site, but its rich marine life makes it a popular destination for divers.
The area is teeming with an abundance of fish, notably grouper, sea bream, bream, octopus, corbs, and moray eels. These species are usually readily visible within the rocky habitats and crevices. Depending on the season, you might also encounter other species in this location.
The best time to visit La Gabinière Ouest is in May and June when there is a higher chance of spotting sunfish. Visibility is generally very good, making it ideal for photography. For freedivers, the site is excellent, given the relatively calm waters and the presence of shallower sections interspersed with deeper areas. However, divers should always be mindful of potential currents, which can be mild to moderate, and they should always be respectful of the dive site and the environment and never touch any of the animals that reside in this area.
