About this dive site

This dive site, Lagon de St. François, is located in a tranquil turquoise lagoon just a short boat ride from a dive center. Its shallow depth makes it exceptionally safe and suitable for beginners, offering a perfect environment for introductory dives and training. The underwater topography is varied, with gentle slopes leading through patches of seagrass and sand, to areas of vibrant coral reefs teeming with life. Navigation is straightforward, with the shallow depth and calm waters making it easy to explore the area.

The marine life in this lagoon is diverse and abundant. Divers and snorkelers can expect to encounter a wide array of colorful reef fish, including surgeonfish, damselfish, sergeant majors, pufferfish, wrasse, grouper, grunts, squirrelfish, yellowtail snapper, and the occasional lobster or spider crab. Cleaner shrimps can often be spotted attending to larger fish, and the area is also home to various species of conch. The coral reefs themselves are also a sight to behold, exhibiting a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes.

The best time to visit Lagon de St. François is during the dry season (December to May), when the weather is warm, sunny, and the water is exceptionally clear. Visibility is generally good throughout the year, but the drier months provide the optimal conditions. This site is perfectly suited for both scuba diving and freediving, due to its shallow depth and lack of strong currents. Beginners will find this to be a reassuring and beautiful introduction to the underwater world, while more experienced divers can appreciate the abundance of small life and the relaxed, tranquil ambiance.
