About this dive site

This dive site, Le Chameau, is located southwest of La Fourmigue and features a distinctive elongated rock formation with two prominent humps. A mooring buoy marks the top of the site at 10 meters, providing a convenient starting point for exploring the underwater landscape. The dive extends down to 28 meters, with the bottom lying at 42 meters just before the area known as Dante's Inferno. Navigating the site is relatively straightforward, following the rock structure down. There is no known specific history or story behind this site, aside from the striking geological features.

The diverse marine life is one of the site's greatest attractions. Divers can expect to encounter groupers, barracudas, lobsters, and a variety of other common Mediterranean species. Nudibranchs are especially abundant, offering excellent opportunities for macro photography. The varied topography provides habitats for a wide range of creatures.

The best time to visit Le Chameau is during the warmer months, from May to October, when visibility is typically excellent and the water temperature is most pleasant. Stronger currents may be present at times. Freedivers should be experienced and comfortable with moderate depths and potential currents. Divers should be aware of the depth and plan their dives accordingly, ensuring sufficient bottom time and air supply.
