About this dive site
This dive site presents a unique opportunity to explore the wreck of the Insuma, a former German escort ship that was requisitioned during World War II. The vessel rests in 40 meters of water between Porticciolo and Pietra-Corbara, approximately 900 meters from shore. The Insuma's journey ended in 1943 after being torpedoed by the Allies, and it subsequently ran aground on a sandy seabed. Today, the wreck remains remarkably well preserved, allowing divers to observe features such as remnants of the cannon on deck, the two propellers, and the ship’s anchors and chains. The depth ranges from 39 to 43 meters, offering an impressive descent into open water. The surrounding waters are teeming with marine life, including groupers, forkheads, lobsters, anthias, and occasionally even a large sunfish. This dive is suitable for divers who have achieved level II or III certification.
