About this dive site

This dive site, Pierre Percée, is located in a sheltered cove on the northern part of Ratonneau Island near Marseille, France. The main feature is a unique rock formation resembling an elephant's eye and trunk, creating a visually interesting underwater landscape. Navigation is straightforward, with the rock formation serving as a clear landmark. The dive involves exploring the small drop-off on the opposite side of the 'eye' and the small piton at the base of the 'trunk'.

The marine life is surprisingly abundant for the area, with numerous small fish like castagnols and sars being commonly sighted. Octopuses also inhabit this area. While larger marine life might not be as prevalent, the abundance of smaller creatures makes it ideal for macro photography.

The best time to visit is during the warmer months (June-September) when visibility is typically at its best and the water temperature is most comfortable for diving and snorkeling. Divers and freedivers will appreciate the calm conditions and easy access from shore. However, it's always advisable to check weather conditions and current forecasts before entering the water.
