This dive site, Friedensteich Wittenberge, is a freshwater pond primarily used as a public lido during summer months, offering convenient shore access. Underwater navigation is straightforward within the shallow depths, reaching a maximum of 6 meters. A noticeable thermocline typically forms at 4-5 meters, separating warmer surface waters from much colder deeper sections, making it a unique local training ground.
The aquatic life includes various freshwater species such as rudd, perch, carp, pike, catfish, crayfish, and mussels. Extensive algae growth covers the shore areas down to about 4 meters, providing habitat for numerous smaller fish and macro life.
The best time to visit is during the outdoor swimming season in summer, as the lido provides amenities like a snack bar, toilets, changing rooms, and showers, enhancing the overall dive experience. Divers should be prepared for the significant temperature drop below the thermocline. It is highly suitable for beginner divers and for practicing basic skills, as well as for freediving due to its manageable depth and calm conditions.
