This dive site, Goldberger See, is a freshwater quarry pond located right next to the A57, exit Dormagen, Germany. Originally an active sand mine, it now serves as a large diving area featuring various platforms and intriguing relics from its industrial past. Access is somewhat hidden on a small farm road, making it a unique local spot for exploration and training.
The Goldberger See is home to typical freshwater aquatic life. Divers can expect to encounter fish species such as perch, pike, and carp. The introduced blackmouth goby is also present. The underwater environment is further characterized by prevalent star algae and other water plants, creating diverse habitats for macro life and adding to the natural landscape.
Diving is available on weekends directly at the lake, while diving during the week requires prior registration via cell phone. Its calm conditions, relatively shallow depths, and interesting man-made structures make it suitable for both scuba divers and freedivers of all experience levels, offering a good spot for training or a leisurely dive to explore the freshwater ecosystem. Cold water is a factor, especially outside summer months.
