This dive site, Kalberschnacke in Listertalsperre, offers an easy shore entry with a gravelled path leading to a gently sloping bottom, starting just 20m from a large parking lot. Divers can explore remnants from the pre-flooding era, providing a glimpse into the lake's history and adding unique interest to the underwater landscape. The dive is straightforward, mainly following the contour of the shore into shallow depths.
The shallow areas, particularly between 3-6 meters, are teeming with freshwater life including numerous perch, crayfish, and roach. With some luck, divers might encounter larger residents like impressive pike and eels. A notable feature is the beautiful sea grass belt, providing habitat and visual interest for both macro and wider-angle observations.
This site is suitable year-round, though water temperatures will vary with seasons. It is ideal for beginner divers due to its shallow depth and easy access, and also for macro enthusiasts or those keen to observe freshwater ecosystems. Freedivers will find it excellent for training due to the manageable depth and calm conditions.
