About this dive site

This dive site, known affectionately as "Kulki," is a unique freshwater destination in Germany, formed from a former lignite mine. The Tauchbasis Florian location offers a maximum depth of 10 meters, making it ideal for training. Divers can navigate around submerged trees, relics from the mining era, which now create interesting underwater structures and provide shelter for marine life. Two practice platforms are available to aid diver training.

The submerged trees and structures serve as a habitat for various freshwater species. Divers can expect to encounter pike and catfish, along with other indigenous fish species of the Kulkwitzer See, seeking refuge among the underwater landscape.

The Kulki is considered one of the most attractive opencast mining lakes in the Leipzig area. While no specific best time to visit is provided, freshwater diving in Germany typically offers good conditions during warmer months. This site is particularly well-suited for beginner divers and those seeking to refine their skills due to its shallow depths and training platforms. Freedivers can also enjoy the clear waters and interesting submerged landscape.
