This dive site, located on the south side of Walchensee, Germany, is famous for its submerged VW Beetle wreck. Divers can access the site from a large parking lot known as 'Am Hackl' approximately 2 km past the toll station towards Jachenau. The wreck is found to the left at a depth of 10 meters, surrounded by natural underwater features like trees and rocks, creating an interesting topography to explore.
While not renowned for an abundance of fish compared to other Walchensee entrances, the site still offers opportunities to encounter various freshwater species such as zander, trout, perch, burbot, bream, and eel rod. These animals contribute to the unique ecosystem of this cold-water lake.
Walchensee is suitable for diving year-round, but conditions like visibility and water temperature vary seasonally; the colder months often offer better visibility. Divers should be prepared for cold water, even in summer, requiring appropriate dry or thick wetsuits. The site is suitable for both scuba divers and freedivers looking to explore the wreck and natural environment of this beautiful alpine lake.
