About this dive site
This dive site is located on the south side of Dryonisi, an island near Paros, Greece. It's known for its calm waters, even during windy conditions that often affect the rest of the island. The dive itself features a unique topography compared to other sites in the region, with sharper and more jagged rock formations. These rock formations create interesting underwater landscapes and are home to a variety of marine life. There is no known history associated with the site other than its current popularity for diving.
Marine life commonly encountered here includes scorpionfish, octopuses, and several scattered amphorae, suggesting possible historical significance. The rock formations are bordered by extensive fields of Posidonia seagrass, providing habitat for many small creatures. A variety of fish species typical of the Aegean Sea are also present.
The best time to visit is during the summer months (June-September) when the water is warmest and visibility is typically best. However, even during the less ideal times of the year the southern side of Dryonisi provides a sheltered and diveable location. This dive site is suitable for both scuba diving and freediving due to its shallow depth and lack of strong currents. Divers and freedivers should be mindful of the sharp rocks and exercise caution during navigation.
