About this dive site

This dive site, Korfu Paleokastritsa Kamelfels, is located a short boat ride from Paleokastritsa bay, near the famous monastery. It's characterized by a typical Mediterranean rocky landscape that rises from shallow depths to over 40 meters, though the diveable area is typically up to 18 meters. The underwater topography is varied, featuring crevices and rocky outcrops creating diverse habitats. Navigation is relatively straightforward, following the rocky formations and keeping an eye on depth, but a dive guide is always recommended, especially for less-experienced divers.

The marine life here is abundant and varied. Divers and snorkelers can expect to see numerous species of fish, including monkfish, wrasses, groupers (often shy, hiding in crevices), and conger eels. There are also opportunities to spot nudibranchs and occasionally moray eels. The rocky formations provide shelter and breeding grounds for a plethora of smaller marine life as well.

The best time to visit is during the warmer months (May to October) when visibility is generally excellent and water temperatures are comfortable for diving and snorkeling. While currents are typically mild, they can be variable depending on weather conditions, so it's advisable to check weather forecasts before diving. For freedivers, the shallow areas provide good opportunities for practice, while experienced freedivers can explore slightly deeper areas. Always dive within your limits and be aware of your surroundings and potential hazards.
