About this dive site

This dive site, Mades, is located off the coast of Crete, Greece. The reef system around the peninsula offers a varied dive experience with depths ranging from 6 meters to a maximum of 30 meters. A particularly interesting feature is a tunnel that begins at 14 meters and exits at 8 meters, making for an enjoyable and manageable exploration for divers of all levels. The site is generally considered beginner-friendly due to its manageable depths and clear navigation.

The marine life at Mades is abundant and diverse. Schools of fish are a common sight, along with octopuses, moray eels, and beautiful colonies of small red corals. Divers can also encounter a variety of other smaller creatures, making this a good site for both macro and wide-angle photography.

The best time to visit Mades is during the summer months (June-September) when the water is warmest and visibility is at its best. For freedivers, the shallower sections of the reef offer plenty of opportunities for exploration, while scuba divers can fully enjoy the deeper parts and the underwater tunnel. Remember to check weather and sea conditions before heading out and always dive within your limits and with a buddy.
