About this dive site
This dive site is located on the northern edge of Makronissos Island in Greece, featuring a well-preserved piper airplane wreck resting on the seabed. Navigation is straightforward; the wreck is a prominent feature, and the surrounding area is relatively flat. The plane itself is the main attraction, but the surrounding area offers opportunities for exploration. The history of the plane is likely unremarkable, being a post-crash resting place for a smaller aircraft.
The diverse marine life makes this an excellent dive. Divers and freedivers can expect to encounter groupers, mullets, octopuses, crabs, shrimps, anemones, various shells, scorpionfish, sponges, soft corals, and sea stars. The variety in species makes this an interesting location for both macro and wide-angle photography.
The best time to visit is during the summer months (June-September) when the water is warmest and visibility is at its best. Divers should be aware of the maximum depth of 22 meters and plan accordingly. Strong currents are not typically present, but divers and freedivers should always check current conditions before entering the water. A boat is required for access.
